Community
Timmins is a welcoming Northern Ontario city built on mining history and surrounded by lakes, trails, and boreal forest. The McIntyre headframe, Hollinger open pit, Porcupine Lake, and local museums connect the city’s working roots with the outdoor life residents and visitors enjoy today.
The collaboration
After years of calling Northwestern Ontario home, the people and places of the North are close to my heart. This Timmins mug grew from that connection and from conversations with people who know and love the community. I wanted the drawing to reflect the places and details that make Timmins feel like home.
Friends who had lived in Timmins helped me think through details to include. I then reached out to Kennedy at Ciao Sandwich. We met and talked about the mug, and she shared feedback and suggested more local elements for the drawing. I incorporated her ideas as I finished the design.
The first run sold out quickly at Ciao Sandwich. I am working on more mugs now, and we hope to have them available before Christmas. It has been encouraging to see Timmins embrace a project that celebrates its own story.

The headframe is an enduring symbol of the mining industry that shaped Timmins.
The lookout reveals the scale and history of one of the area’s major gold mines.
The lake represents waterfront views, paddling, fishing, and the Porcupine community.
The popular trail and shoreline provide a natural gathering place close to the city centre.
The museum shares the people, cultures, and mining stories of the Porcupine camp.
Pines, snow, wildlife, and open water reflect the landscape surrounding Timmins.
