Community
Timmins is a welcoming Northern Ontario city built on mining history and surrounded by lakes, trails, and boreal forest. The McIntyre headframe, Hollinger open pit, Porcupine Lake, and local museums connect the city’s working roots with the outdoor life residents and visitors enjoy today.

The collaboration
The Timmins Mug began with local research and a collaboration with Ciao Sandwich. Ashley translated the community’s recognizable places and shared references into an original drawing designed for everyday use.
The Timmins Mug launched with Ciao Sandwich in 2026. The first run of 120 mugs sold out, leading to another order for the community.
Each element began as an individual hand drawing. Ashley refined the artwork and arranged the pieces into a continuous design made to wrap around a ceramic mug, creating a keepsake that feels specific to Timmins.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Ciao Sandwich to create a mug rooted in Timmins.
Research and community input highlighted gold-mining history, northern lakes, and familiar places throughout Timmins.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Ciao Sandwich.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The headframe is an enduring symbol of the mining industry that shaped Timmins.
The lookout reveals the scale and history of one of the area’s major gold mines.
The lake represents waterfront views, paddling, fishing, and the Porcupine community.
The popular trail and shoreline provide a natural gathering place close to the city centre.
The museum shares the people, cultures, and mining stories of the Porcupine camp.
Pines, snow, wildlife, and open water reflect the landscape surrounding Timmins.
The creative process
I built this design around McIntyre Headframe, Hollinger Open Pit, Porcupine Lake, and Gillies Lake. Each was drawn on its own, then adjusted and arranged until the finished wrap felt less like a collection of icons and more like a walk through Timmins.
