The collaboration
Our family’s connection to Cambridge began through church and friends who partnered with us in ministry. We developed deep friendships there and also visited Cambridge for pastors’ conferences and opportunities to connect with other pastors in the region.
While visiting friends, we stopped at Monigram Coffee Roasters and immediately loved the shop. Cambridge is such a beautiful city that the idea of a mug celebrating it felt natural. I began assembling the design, then reached out to Monica at Monigram to collaborate and refine the details.
It has been great working with both Monica and Lex. The finished mug came together beautifully, and the way the Cambridge community has received it has been incredibly encouraging.
Drawn by hand

The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Monigram Coffee to create a mug rooted in Cambridge.
Research and community input highlighted stone architecture, the Grand River, and the historic neighbourhoods of Cambridge.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Monigram Coffee.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The river winds through Cambridge and ties together its historic communities.
The arched bridge frames one of the most recognizable views of downtown Galt.
Stone buildings and church spires give the downtown its distinctive architectural character.
The restored riverside mill represents the city’s industrial history and new gathering spaces.
The landmark building now brings reading, creativity, and community activity to the riverfront.
The transformed foundry site reflects Cambridge’s blend of heritage and renewed public space.
The creative process
Grand River became the visual thread for this mug. I drew Main Street Bridge, Historic Galt, and Cambridge Mill around it so the finished wrap moves through Cambridge the way a familiar view or favorite drive does.
