South Padre Island is a welcoming Gulf community where beaches, wildlife, fishing, and life on the Laguna Madre set the pace. The causeway, nearby Port Isabel Lighthouse, Sea Turtle Inc., and wide shoreline make it a special home and a favorite destination for visitors.

The collaboration
When our family lived in Los Fresnos, South Padre Island was one of our favorite places to escape. We loved driving toward the quieter end of the island with the windows down, breathing the coastal air, and relaxing away from the crowds. We enjoyed beach days, bay fishing, dolphin and eco tours, and renting a place with a pool for the kids.
My husband and I especially love dates at Viva, where we can share tacos and margaritas while watching the sunset. We have also watched SpaceX launches and tower catches from the island. My favorite part of the artwork is the sweeping bridge and bay landscape across the front of the mug.
After finishing the design, I approached Ernie at Yummies Bistro, our favorite breakfast restaurant. He was excited to carry it, and working with Ernie and his sister Mindy has been wonderful. Our kids love the milkshakes, and the mug has sold incredibly well in a place our family already loved.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Yummies Bistro to create a mug celebrating South Padre Island.
Beaches, wildlife, fishing, local food, and views across the Laguna Madre shaped the artwork.
Ashley illustrated each selected place and symbol by hand in her signature linework.
The drawings were refined and arranged into one continuous island story.
The finished South Padre Island Mug became part of everyday coffee and vacation memories at the bistro.

Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The long bridge across the Laguna Madre creates the familiar approach to South Padre Island.
The historic lighthouse across the bay is a recognizable part of the island skyline.
A sea turtle honors the island organization known for rescue, rehabilitation, and education.
Sand, shells, palms, and Gulf water capture the island’s everyday coastal landscape.
Pelicans, shorebirds, dolphins, and fish reflect the life found around the island.
Fresh seafood, tacos, boats, and fishing poles celebrate the flavors and traditions visitors remember.
The creative process
I began with Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway and used it to set the pace of the composition. Adding Port Isabel Lighthouse, Sea Turtle Inc., and South Padre Beaches brought architecture, gathering places, and local character together without making the mug feel like a list of landmarks.
