Corpus Christi carries the easy energy of the Texas coast, with the bay, beaches, and South Texas culture all close at hand. The Harbor Bridge, USS Lexington, Selena’s legacy, and coastal wildlife give residents a strong sense of place and visitors countless reasons to return.

The collaboration
After living in South Texas and creating mugs for places such as South Padre Island, Galveston, and Brownsville, Corpus Christi felt like a natural next community to celebrate.
I created the Corpus Christi Mug in collaboration with Coffee Waves. Working with Matt, Sarah, and their team has been such a good experience, and I am genuinely thankful for the Coffee Waves family.
That collaboration later led to the Port Aransas Mug when the team invited me to create a design for their location there, connecting the two coastal mugs through one wonderful local partnership.
The story behind the mug
Ashley and Coffee Waves began a mug designed around the sights and traditions of Corpus Christi.
Waterfront landmarks, wildlife, food, and South Texas details became the foundation of the artwork.
Ashley illustrated each local element by hand, from the harbor skyline to beloved coastal symbols.
The drawings were refined and composed to reward a closer look around the entire mug.
The finished design became available through Coffee Waves locations on Alameda Street and South Padre Island Drive.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The bridge and Corpus Christi skyline create one of the city’s most recognizable waterfront views.
The historic aircraft carrier honors the city’s strong connection to the bay and naval history.
A star celebrates Selena Quintanilla and the musical legacy Corpus Christi proudly remembers.
The pier represents fishing, beach days, and life along the Gulf Coast.
Dolphins and shorebirds reflect the rich marine life surrounding Corpus Christi.
Citrus, bluebonnets, and local food add the color and flavor of the region.
The creative process
I let Harbor Bridge lead this drawing, then worked USS Lexington, Selena, and Bob Hall Pier into the scene around it. That flow gave me a natural way to carry the parts of Corpus Christi people know best across the full curve of the mug.
