Community
Port Aransas is an easygoing island community shaped by fishing, birding, beach days, and life along the Gulf. The ferry, Lydia Ann Lighthouse, Mustang Island shoreline, and Texas SandFest make it a treasured home and a destination visitors look forward to returning to.

The collaboration
The Port Aransas Mug grew directly from my relationship with Coffee Waves. After I created the Corpus Christi Mug, Matt asked whether I would also design one for their Port Aransas location.
It was fun to learn more about the community and collaborate with the Coffee Waves team on the places and symbols that belonged in the artwork. Our years living in South Texas had already inspired several coastal designs, making Port Aransas a natural addition.
The mug has been a wonderful success. Visitors love bringing it home as a useful souvenir, something they can drink from each day while remembering the time they spent in Port Aransas.
The story behind the mug
Ashley and Coffee Waves began a mug inspired by the relaxed character of Port Aransas.
Fishing, ferries, wildlife, beaches, and beloved traditions became the foundation of the design.
Ashley illustrated each local element by hand, balancing landmarks with the rhythms of the Gulf.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design for the mug.
The finished Port Aransas Mug joined the shop’s coffee routine for island residents and visitors.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The ferry represents the familiar arrival to Mustang Island and the working ship channel.
The historic lighthouse stands as a recognizable marker across the water from Port Aransas.
A sand sculpture celebrates the annual festival that transforms the beach into an outdoor gallery.
Tarpon, boats, and fishing poles honor the island’s long connection to the Gulf.
Herons and other coastal birds reflect one of the island’s favorite nature destinations.
Dunes, shells, crabs, and beach views capture everyday life along the coast.
The creative process
I built this design around Port Aransas Ferry, Lydia Ann Lighthouse, Texas SandFest, and Port Aransas Fishing. Each was drawn on its own, then adjusted and arranged until the finished wrap felt less like a collection of icons and more like a walk through Port Aransas.
