North Aurora became part of a growing four-town collaboration between Ashley and Krema. Each location needed its own visual story while still feeling connected to the larger collection.
Ashley researched and drew the community details by hand, then arranged them into a continuous composition made for the curved mug surface. The result brings local art and local coffee together in an object meant for everyday use.
The story behind the mug
North Aurora became part of Ashley and Krema’s growing collection of mugs created for individual shop communities.
The Fox River, trails, parks, and community traditions provided the foundation for the design.
Ashley turned recognizable places and symbols into individual drawings made by hand.
Each study was refined and arranged into a continuous illustration built to wrap around the mug.
The finished design found its home at Krema on Ritter Street, close to the river that inspired it.

Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, gathering places, and everyday life.
The river running through the village anchors North Aurora’s landscape and community identity.
The riverside path celebrates biking, walking, and time outdoors along the water.
A favorite riverfront gathering place at the center of the village.
Woodland trails and wildlife represent the natural side of the North Aurora area.
The annual celebration reflects the festivals and traditions that bring neighbors together.
The village motto captures North Aurora’s historic position and its continuing connection to the river.

The creative process
I began with Fox River and used it to set the pace of the composition. Adding Fox River Trail, North Aurora Island Park, and Red Oak Nature Center brought architecture, gathering places, and local character together without making the mug feel like a list of landmarks.
