Libertyville brings together a lively downtown, beautiful open spaces, and the easy warmth of a close community. Milwaukee Avenue, Independence Grove, the Dunn Museum, Lambs Farm, and local traditions give residents and visitors a rich mix of history, nature, and hometown life.
The collaboration
The Libertyville Mug grew out of my collaboration with Conscious Cup. After I created the Crystal Lake Mug, Mike and Rosanna Shipley invited me to make designs celebrating each of the other communities where Conscious Cup has shops.
It was wonderful working with Mike, Rosanna, and their team to create a mug specifically for Libertyville. I especially loved drawing the downtown area, and I am so thankful for the support the community has shown the finished design.
The people behind Conscious Cup
Every mug in this collection grew from a creative partnership with Conscious Cup. It has been a joy to collaborate with owners Michael Shipley and Roseanna Shipley as these five local designs found their way into the cafes and communities they serve.
The story behind the mug
Ashley’s Crystal Lake design connected with the Conscious Cup team and opened the door to a larger hometown collection.
Each hand-drawn study was refined and arranged into a continuous composition designed to wrap around the mug.
Conscious Cup introduced the finished Libertyville design alongside the full five-town collection and its local storytelling campaign.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the village’s history, recreation, and community life.
The historic Milwaukee Avenue storefronts that give the village center its character.
The lake, trails, and bridge represent one of Libertyville’s best-known outdoor destinations.
The carousel celebrates the longtime family destination just outside the heart of Libertyville.
A dinosaur recalls the museum’s exhibits exploring the natural and cultural history of Lake County.
Volleyball and school spirit honor Libertyville High School’s teams and traditions.
The Illinois Route 21 sign marks the familiar road running through the center of town.
From one town to five
The Crystal Lake Mug opened the door to four more town designs: Cary, Barrington, Palatine, and Libertyville. Conscious Cup introduced all five in November 2022 with a coordinated campaign focused on Ashley’s hand-drawn process and the local identity of every cafe community.
The mugs were created as generously sized, 15 oz latte-style keepsakes, meant to be used at home while keeping a familiar place close at hand.
