“We immediately loved it.”The Conscious Cup team on Ashley’s first Illinois hometown mug
Libertyville was one of four additional communities Conscious Cup invited Ashley to draw after the Crystal Lake Mug connected so strongly with the team. Together, the five designs formed a collection tied to the cafe locations where each mug would be sold.
Ashley built the Libertyville composition from individual drawings, arranging the town’s character into a continuous scene around the mug. The final sample arrived just as the original collection photography and launch materials were being completed.
Since its 2022 debut, the Libertyville design has continued as part of the wider hometown series, including a later tumbler edition made for the Conscious Cup collection.
The story behind the mug
Ashley’s Crystal Lake design connected with the Conscious Cup team and opened the door to a larger hometown collection.
Conscious Cup invited Ashley to create a distinct mug for Libertyville as part of its original five-town collection.
Ashley gathered the village’s downtown architecture, outdoor destinations, family attractions, and school traditions into individual drawings.
Each hand-drawn study was refined and arranged into a continuous composition designed to wrap around the mug.
Conscious Cup introduced the finished Libertyville design alongside the full five-town collection and its local storytelling campaign.

From one town to five
The Crystal Lake Mug opened the door to four more town designs: Cary, Barrington, Palatine, and Libertyville. Conscious Cup introduced all five in November 2022 with a coordinated campaign focused on Ashley’s hand-drawn process and the local identity of every cafe community.
The mugs were created as generously sized, 15 oz latte-style keepsakes, meant to be used at home while keeping a familiar place close at hand.
The creative process
I drew Downtown Libertyville, Independence Grove, Lambs Farm, and Dunn Museum as individual pieces before bringing them together. Their different shapes and stories gave me the rhythm for a wraparound composition that feels layered, personal, and specific to Libertyville.
