Community
Lake Zurich is centered around the water that gives the village its name and the community life that grows along its shores. Paulus Park, the Promenade, Alpine Fest, and sunset views create a hometown atmosphere that feels relaxed, connected, and inviting.
The collaboration
My father-in-law spent part of his childhood in Lake Zurich, and my husband visited the community often while growing up. Those family memories made researching the mug especially enjoyable for him.
Matt helped identify many of the places and details that belonged in the design, drawing from the stories and landmarks he remembered. I am very thankful for Stompin’ Grounds Cafe and their collaboration on the mug.
The Lake Zurich community has continued to support and embrace the design, and it has been wonderful to see that hometown pride remain so strong.
The story behind the mug
Inside the illustration
The village’s namesake lake shapes its waterfront parks, beaches, and seasonal paddling traditions.
Paulus Park is Lake Zurich’s signature lakefront park, with beaches, picnic pavilions, and space for community recreation.
The lakeside Promenade brings Lake Zurich’s waterfront scenery to the Main Street area.
Founded in 1976, the Ela Historical Society and Museum preserves and shares the history of Lake Zurich and Ela Township.
Hosted by the Lake Zurich Lions Club, Alpine Fest brings carnival rides, music, games, and food to a longstanding summer celebration.
Sunset Pavilion is a seasonal lakeside gathering spot in Breezewald Park, known for refreshments and views across Lake Zurich.
