After Conscious Cup embraced Ashley’s first Illinois design for Crystal Lake, the team invited her to create a mug for every cafe community. Cary became one of the four new hometown designs in that original five-mug collection.
Ashley gathered recognizable local details and translated them into a continuous hand-drawn composition. The goal was not a generic souvenir, but a useful everyday object that Cary residents could recognize as their own.
Conscious Cup and Ashley introduced the collection together in November 2022, supported by location-specific photography, a stop-motion campaign, and individual town pages that helped each community discover its mug.
The story behind the mug
Ashley’s Crystal Lake design connected with the Conscious Cup team and opened the door to a larger hometown collection.
Conscious Cup invited Ashley to create a distinct mug for Cary as part of its original five-town collection.
Ashley gathered the places, traditions, and everyday symbols Cary residents would immediately recognize.
Individual drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous composition made to wrap around the mug.
Conscious Cup introduced the finished Cary design alongside the full five-town collection and its local storytelling campaign.

The drawing
The Cary artwork was assembled from individual hand-drawn studies, then composed to wrap around a 15 oz latte-style mug.
From one town to five
The Crystal Lake Mug opened the door to four more town designs: Cary, Barrington, Palatine, and Libertyville. Conscious Cup introduced all five in November 2022 with a coordinated campaign focused on Ashley’s hand-drawn process and the local identity of every cafe community.
The mugs were created as generously sized, 15 oz latte-style keepsakes, meant to be used at home while keeping a familiar place close at hand.
The creative process
Downtown Cary and Cary Metra Station gave this design its first direction, while Lions Park and Rotary Park added another side of the community’s character. I refined the spacing by hand so every turn of the mug reveals something familiar.
