Galveston, Texas

Galveston is an island city filled with coastal character, remarkable architecture, and stories that stretch across generations. The Seawall, The Strand, Bishop’s Palace, the Grand Galvez, and the working port make it a proud home and one of Texas’s most memorable places to visit.

The collaboration

A personal connection, drawn into every detail.

When our family drove from Illinois to South Texas to visit family, Galveston became a favorite place to stop and rest. We loved walking the beach together and looking for shells along the shore.

During one trip, I decided to make a Galveston Mug and took reference photos throughout the city. After returning to South Texas, I assembled the design and reached out to the recently opened Seawall Coffee. Megan, Paula, and I connected immediately, beginning a partnership that has been so much fun.

I loved learning the history behind the Grand Galvez, and I enjoyed drawing Pleasure Pier, the Port of Galveston, and the cruise ships. The mug has been received so well that the artwork is now also available on a skinny tumbler.

The story behind the mug

How a love for Galveston became a wraparound story.

  1. The Galveston story begins

Ashley partnered with Seawall Coffee to create a mug filled with the character of Galveston Island.

  2. History and the Gulf guide the design

Architecture, beaches, ships, fishing, and coastal traditions became the visual foundation.

  3. Galveston details take shape

Ashley illustrated each landmark and local symbol by hand in her signature linework.

  4. Two sides of one island story

Historic buildings and everyday beach details were arranged into a continuous composition.

  5. The mug keeps returning to Seawall Coffee

Continued shop sales have kept the Galveston collaboration active for residents and visitors.

The creative process

Drawing Galveston from the water outward.

I let Galveston Seawall lead this drawing, then worked Historic Pleasure Pier, The Strand, and 1892 Bishop’s Palace into the scene around it. That flow gave me a natural way to carry the parts of Galveston people know best across the full curve of the mug.
