Community
Morden is a welcoming Pembina Valley city with prairie roots, creative energy, and plenty of reasons to gather. Bruce the Mosasaur, Lake Minnewasta, the historic downtown, and the Corn and Apple Festival make it a proud home and a delightful stop for visitors.

The collaboration
I created the Morden and Winkler mugs as companion pieces and first presented them to Zach at Whitecap Coffee. It was wonderful collaborating with him, and since the ownership transitioned to Brittany, it has been equally good working with her to continue celebrating both communities.
Our family’s connection to Morden is rooted in friendship and ministry. Some of our favorite memories are simply gathering in friends’ homes, talking about our shared faith, and drinking coffee or tea together. More than any landmark, it is the people who make Morden meaningful to us.
The remarkable fossils and dinosaur discoveries associated with Morden fascinated our children and became an especially memorable part of learning about the community while developing the artwork.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Whitecap Morden to create a mug rooted in Morden.
Research and community input highlighted fossils, festivals, prairie landscapes, and familiar places around Morden.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Whitecap Morden.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre’s enormous marine reptile is one of Morden’s best-known treasures.
The lake represents swimming, trails, camping, and time outdoors close to town.
Corn, apples, and festival details celebrate a favourite annual community tradition.
The clock tower and downtown streets reflect Morden’s welcoming civic centre.
Rolling fields and the nearby escarpment place Morden within its distinctive prairie landscape.
Grain, farm fields, and harvest imagery honour the work that has shaped the region.
The creative process
I built this design around Bruce the Mosasaur, Lake Minnewasta, Corn and Apple Festival, and Historic Downtown. Each was drawn on its own, then adjusted and arranged until the finished wrap felt less like a collection of icons and more like a walk through Morden.
