Set along the Fox River, Algonquin brings together scenic trails, welcoming neighborhoods, and the character of its Old Town district. From Cornish Park to Founders’ Days, it is a community shaped by gathering places, local traditions, and the kind of everyday beauty that feels like home.
The Algonquin Mug began with local research and a collaboration with Riverbottom Ice Cream. Ashley translated the community’s recognizable places and shared references into an original drawing designed for everyday use.
Each element began as an individual hand drawing. Ashley refined the artwork and arranged the pieces into a continuous design made to wrap around a ceramic mug, creating a keepsake that feels specific to Algonquin.

The hand-drawn process behind The Algonquin Mug
The creative process
Letting the Fox River guide the Algonquin drawing.
I used the Fox River as the line that carries the eye around this mug, then layered in Cornish Park, the Historic Village Hall, and Founders’ Days. Drawing those pieces together let the design hold both Algonquin’s riverfront beauty and the gathering places that make the town feel familiar.
A meaningful local gift
A thoughtful Algonquin gift for homecomings and new beginnings.
The mug makes a meaningful Algonquin, Illinois housewarming gift, new-home welcome, or moving-away keepsake. Its hand-drawn local details give residents and former residents something familiar to recognize with every cup.
