The Algonquin Mug began with local research and a collaboration with Riverbottom Ice Cream. Ashley translated the community’s recognizable places and shared references into an original drawing designed for everyday use.
Each element began as an individual hand drawing. Ashley refined the artwork and arranged the pieces into a continuous design made to wrap around a ceramic mug, creating a keepsake that feels specific to Algonquin.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Riverbottom Ice Cream to create a mug rooted in Algonquin.
Research and community input highlighted the Fox River, historic downtown, parks, and community traditions.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Riverbottom Ice Cream.

Old Town’s village seal and Towne Park clock tower bring the illustrated landmarks back into the community that inspired them.

The creative process
I used the Fox River as the line that carries the eye around this mug, then layered in Cornish Park, the Historic Village Hall, and Founders’ Days. Drawing those pieces together let the design hold both Algonquin’s riverfront beauty and the gathering places that make the town feel familiar.
