The collaboration
The Tybee Island Mug began with local research and a collaboration with Seaweeds. Ashley translated the community’s recognizable places and shared references into an original drawing designed for everyday use.
Each element began as an individual hand drawing. Ashley refined the artwork and arranged the pieces into a continuous design made to wrap around a ceramic mug, creating a keepsake that feels specific to Tybee Island.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Seaweeds to create a mug rooted in Tybee Island.
Research and community input highlighted Atlantic beaches, maritime history, island wildlife, and the relaxed landmarks of Tybee.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Seaweeds.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse has guided mariners and defined the island skyline for generations.
The pier reaches into the Atlantic from the center of South Beach.
The brick fort preserves Civil War history at the entrance to the Savannah River.
The small white lighthouse still stands in the river near Fort Pulaski.
Wide sand, dunes, and ocean views capture Tybee’s easygoing coastal character.
The center shares the wildlife, ecology, and changing shoreline of Georgia’s coast.
The creative process
Tybee Island Light Station became the visual thread for this mug. I drew Tybee Pier and Pavilion, Fort Pulaski, and Cockspur Island Lighthouse around it so the finished wrap moves through Tybee Island the way a familiar view or favorite drive does.
