The collaboration

A personal connection, drawn into every detail.

The Lisle Mug began as a passion project while I was exploring communities around Northern Illinois. I grew up in nearby Plainfield and was familiar with Lisle, but drawing the mug gave me the chance to learn much more about its history and character.

The town’s connection to hot-air balloons especially stood out to me, along with its small and welcoming downtown. The finished mug found a home at Creme & Co., and it has been such a pleasure collaborating with Areej. She is incredibly kind, and the partnership has made this little hometown project especially enjoyable.

The story behind the mug

The moments that shaped The Lisle Mug.

  2. The character of the place comes into focus

Research and community input highlighted gardens, trails, village history, festivals, and outdoor spaces.

  3. Lisle takes shape

Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.

  4. One community story from every side

The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.

  5. Available through Creme & Co. Cafe

The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Creme & Co. Cafe.

The creative process

Bringing the landscape of Lisle onto the mug.

I used The Morton Arboretum to establish the setting, then added Four Lakes, Lisle Depot Museum, and Eyes to the Skies as the drawing moved around the mug. Balancing scenery with familiar local places helped the finished piece feel rooted in the way Lisle is actually experienced.

A meaningful local gift

A hometown gift that feels unmistakably Lisle.

A thoughtful choice for a realtor closing gift, new homeowner, or longtime resident, the artwork turns familiar Lisle, Illinois landmarks into a useful keepsake rather than an ordinary souvenir.
