The Bondurant Mug began with local research and a collaboration with Branding Iron Coffee & Empanadas. Ashley translated the community’s recognizable places and shared references into an original drawing designed for everyday use.
Each element began as an individual hand drawing. Ashley refined the artwork and arranged the pieces into a continuous design made to wrap around a ceramic mug, creating a keepsake that feels specific to Bondurant.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Branding Iron Coffee & Empanadas to create a mug rooted in Bondurant.
Research and community input highlighted the Hoback River valley, ranching traditions, mountain scenery, and the gathering places of Bondurant.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Branding Iron Coffee & Empanadas.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The historic log church has long served as both a place of worship and a gathering place in the Bondurant community.
The river winds through the valley and anchors Bondurant’s mountain setting.
The surrounding peaks create the dramatic backdrop residents recognize as home.
Open ranchland and broad Wyoming skies reflect the rural character of the community.
Cattle, horses, and working ranches honor generations of life in the valley.
The annual community barbecue celebrates local connection while supporting St. Hubert the Hunter.
The creative process
I drew St. Hubert the Hunter, Hoback River, Gros Ventre Mountains, and Bondurant Basin as individual pieces before bringing them together. Their different shapes and stories gave me the rhythm for a wraparound composition that feels layered, personal, and specific to Bondurant.
