Community
Westmont is a spirited village with a walkable downtown, active parks, and events that bring neighbors together. Ty Warner Park, the Metra station, Taste of Westmont, veterans memorial, and the legacy of Muddy Waters give the community a character that is proudly its own.
The collaboration
Westmont offered a wonderful range of places to draw, from its downtown and Metra station to Ty Warner Park and the community traditions that bring neighbors together. I wanted the mug to celebrate the details that residents recognize as their own.
The project came together with Lina at J’s Coffee as the new coffee shop was getting started. It was exciting to collaborate during that launch and create a Westmont Mug that people could discover at a local gathering place. I am thankful to Lina and the J’s Coffee team for giving the design a home in the community.
The story behind the mug
Inside the illustration
Ty Warner Park provides 36 acres of community park space on North Blackhawk Drive in Westmont.
Westmont’s Metra station links the village to Aurora and Chicago along the BNSF commuter rail line.
Cass Avenue is downtown Westmont’s gathering corridor, hosting the Taste of Westmont and its live music stages.
Taste of Westmont brings food, live music, and a Muddy Waters tribute to the village’s downtown Cass Avenue each summer.
Veterans Memorial Park on South Linden Avenue combines playgrounds, lighted baseball fields, a walking path, and picnic space.
Blues pioneer Muddy Waters lived in Westmont from 1973 until 1983, a connection honored through local exhibits and musical tributes.
