Little Rock is a capital city with a deeply layered history, a lively riverfront, and outdoor beauty woven into urban life. The River Market, Central High School, the Old State House, and the Big Dam Bridge give residents and visitors meaningful ways to experience the city.

The collaboration
This design belongs to a growing Blackberry Market collaboration that gives each community its own hand-drawn portrait. The shared collection connects several shop locations while keeping the landmarks and local references specific to each town.
Each element began as an individual hand drawing. Ashley refined the artwork and arranged the pieces into a continuous design made to wrap around a ceramic mug, creating a keepsake that feels specific to Little Rock.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Blackberry Market to create a mug rooted in Little Rock.
Research and community input highlighted the Arkansas River, civil rights history, state government, downtown culture, and celebrated city landmarks.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Blackberry Market.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
The domed capitol represents Little Rock’s role at the center of state government.
The National Historic Site preserves a pivotal story in the American civil rights movement.
Markets, restaurants, arts, and riverfront activity make this a downtown gathering place.
The riverfront center connects presidential history, public service, and modern architecture.
Arkansas’s original state capitol is one of Little Rock’s most significant historic buildings.
The pedestrian and bicycle bridge links the city to the Arkansas River Trail.
The creative process
Arkansas State Capitol gave me the architectural starting point for this design. I balanced it with Little Rock Central High School, River Market District, and Clinton Presidential Center, drawing each one separately before fitting them together into a continuous view of Little Rock.
