The collaboration
My husband Matt’s grandparents, Ron and Dorothy Vedder, made their home in Leesburg, and Dorothy still lives there today. Ron has since passed away, making our family’s connection to Leesburg especially meaningful.
After creating the Leesburg Mug, I approached The Coffee Snob, and they were happy to carry it. It has been wonderful working with their team and celebrating a community that holds such a personal connection for our family.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with The Coffee Snob to create a mug rooted in Leesburg.
Research and community input highlighted Lake Harris, Venetian Gardens, historic downtown, and the traditions of Florida’s Lakefront City.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through The Coffee Snob.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
Paths, bridges, islands, and waterfront views make this park one of Leesburg’s signature places.
The lake shapes the city’s waterfront identity and its boating and fishing traditions.
Local storefronts and gathering places preserve the character of the city center.
The restored Victorian home represents an important chapter of Leesburg’s architectural history.
The museum preserves photographs, artifacts, and stories from the city’s past.
The lakefront venue overlooks Venetian Gardens and hosts community celebrations beside Lake Harris.
The creative process
I began this mug with Venetian Gardens, then built outward through Lake Harris, Historic Downtown Leesburg, and Mote-Morris House. Drawing those elements by hand let me preserve their individual character while tying them together through the landscape.
