The collaboration
This North Carolina design grew through Ashley’s collaboration with Black Bear Coffee. The artwork gathers local references into one continuous composition made for the curved surface of a mug.
Each element began as an individual hand drawing. Ashley refined the artwork and arranged the pieces into a continuous design made to wrap around a ceramic mug, creating a keepsake that feels specific to Fletcher.
The story behind the mug
Ashley partnered with Black Bear Coffee to create a mug rooted in Fletcher.
Research and community input highlighted Cane Creek, Blue Ridge scenery, community parks, local history, and the area’s equestrian traditions.
Ashley translated each selected place and symbol into an individual hand-drawn illustration.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a continuous design that rewards a closer look.
The finished mug became a locally available keepsake through Black Bear Coffee.
Inside the illustration
Each element celebrates a recognizable part of the community’s history, landscape, gathering places, and everyday life.
Miles of paths, fields, and gathering spaces make the park a centerpiece of community life.
The creek follows the park and helps define Fletcher’s green landscape.
This local waterway is part of the town’s geography and early settlement story.
Mountain views place Fletcher within the wider landscape of western North Carolina.
The regional center brings agricultural shows, equestrian events, and community gatherings to Fletcher.
Horses and riding culture reflect a familiar part of the area’s agricultural character.
The creative process
Bill Moore Community Park set the tone for this composition. I paired it with Cane Creek, Hoopers Creek, and Blue Ridge Mountains, allowing the natural setting and the community’s recognizable places to share the story rather than compete for space.
