Community
Elburn brings together agricultural roots, small-town traditions, and the connections of a growing Kane County community. Blackberry Creek, the historic downtown, Metra station, grain elevator, and Elburn Days reflect a village where familiar places and neighborly spirit still matter.
The collaboration
Our connection to Elburn reaches back to our years at Northern Illinois University. Later, when my husband worked in downtown Chicago, he regularly caught the Metra in Elburn for his commute.
We also have friends who live in the community and have always enjoyed The Corner Grind. It was wonderful putting together a mug that celebrates Elburn and the familiar places that give the town its character.
The story behind the mug
Inside the illustration
Passenger service began here in January 2006, connecting Elburn with Chicago on Metra’s Union Pacific West Line.
Maintained by the Elburn Lions, this community park hosts local celebrations, charitable events, and the annual Elburn Days festival.
Beginning as “A Day in the Park” in 1930, this Lions Club tradition brings a parade, carnival, and entertainment to Elburn each August.
Elburn’s Main Street grew around the railroad and Blackberry Station, with businesses such as Ream’s Market becoming part of its downtown story.
