Start with a place, rather than a checklist

A collection can begin with one meaningful place: your hometown, a lake you return to each summer, or the city where you met someone important. Choosing a connection first gives each mug a reason to belong. You do not need a complete set or a mug from every stop to build a collection worth keeping.

Look closely at the illustrations

A city name is only the beginning. Look for details that help you recognize a place: a familiar building, a local business, a favorite outdoor activity, or a small landmark you would miss from a broad skyline. Ashley Ann’s hometown collection uses hand-drawn community illustrations. Visit an individual mug page to explore the places pictured and the story behind that design.

Choose a collection you can live with

Before adding a mug, think about where it will go and how you want to use it. A shelf of keepsakes and a cupboard of everyday coffee mugs can both be satisfying. Check the particular product’s size and care instructions with the retailer rather than assuming every ceramic mug has the same finish or requirements. Leave enough room to lift a handle without knocking the mug beside it.

Keep the story with the mug

Write down where you found it, who was with you, and which illustrated detail caught your attention. A photo or a short note can preserve the part that a town name cannot explain. If a mug is a gift, include that connection in the card. A small note about a shared place often says more than a description of the object.

Find the local shop before you travel

Use the mug directory to find a community and its partner shop, then check that mug’s page for the address and directions. Confirm current hours and availability with the shop before making a special trip. A listing is a starting point for planning, not a promise that a particular design is in stock that day.
